In a few years, the world of policy communications will look very different to today. Generative AI is revolutionising how people create content, how they complete tasks, and how research and policy is consumed and understood.
This course helps you get ahead of the change, showing you how to harness the power of AI to enhance your communications efforts, while maintaining critical human oversight, and navigating the various ethical considerations.
The course is led by Nick Scott, a digital strategist with over 20 years’ experience working with non-profits. Nick was a co-founder of WonkComms, Head of Digital at the Overseas Development Institute, and has consulted with organisations like Greenpeace, The International Science Council, and the International Institute for Sustainable Development.
By the end of this course, you will:
Understand what generative AI tools are able to do in a policy context, and how you can use them in your day-to-day (including how to write good prompts)
Know what specialised AI tools are good for (and how to build one), and when the generalist models are a better bet
Explore what’s possible through ‘vibe coding’
Consider what the future of your job may look like, and what it means for the skills you may need to develop
You will get the most out of this course if you are a couple of years into your career—it requires you to have a good understanding of your current work context and how AI can solve some of the problems in that context.
This is a 5-week course. There are 5 online modules to work through, each with a mix of content and exercises for you to complete (each module is approximately 2 hours work).
There are three live, one-hour teaching sessions as part of this course, designed to consolidate learning, explore examples and facilitate discussion. We will be running two sets of live sessions for this cohort, to accommodate participants around the world (all times below are UK time.)
